@aral Would you prefer it to suddenly change it's default behaviour without warning you at all?

@BPScott Warnings usually = cop out. Question to ask is what (more difficult) decision did we not take that would make the warning obsolete?

@aral IMO changing the default of such a common cmd is so fundamental I don't think it is reasonable to make a decision without the user

@BPScott So why are we changing the default? Why don’t we evolve the vocabulary instead? There is always another way :)

@aral Changing the action mapping to a word would cause unexpected behaviour for those who have chose the existing meaning in their settings

@aral Thus I don't think it reasonable to change the existing words, so thus all that remains is to chose a new word

@aral Are you sure git is the right tool for you? "Can’t be bothered to read" is not quite the right attitude when working with git.

@aral I disagree. It’s a constant back and forth. When tools change, we need to adapt. Otherwise we would still use RCS, for example.

@halfbyte We adapt if there are no easier alternatives. When there are, we switch.

@aral Again, I disagree. I did move to git not because it was easier (hah), but because it was better. But more complicated (than svn).

@aral Does the use of "squelch" in the message - harking back to analogue VHF radios - count as the most obscure textual skeuomorphism yet?

@aral If there's one project which needs your UX help it's Git. At least I can actually use my phone, even though a megacorp owns my data.
