RT @verge: Why Monsanto spent $1 billion on a weather app http://vrge.co/1eaYnFL
Same reason they do anything? Because they’re evil fucks.
@IanEiloart I think it’s evil to give a transnational corporation _intellectual property rights_ over our staple foods, yes.

@aral Ah, well I’m with you there. But, it’s the patent authorities that need sorting out. And they don’t have IPR on existing crops. -
@IanEiloart No, but do read up on their practices. They’ve destroyed farms that were nearby and got infected by their crops, etc. Predatory. -
@aral Monstanto destroyed other people’s property? That would be a criminal act, right? -
@IanEiloart It has, in the past, when its crops infected nearby fields (the farmer, then, is illegally growing Monsanto’s property) -
@aral I don’t think GM IPR is as bad as software IPR - development cycles are more suited to 20 yr expiry dates. -
@IanEiloart Only worse, because we are talking about the staple foods that feed the world, instead of Microsoft Word :) -
@aral But, we have other seeds available. They don’t have a monopoly.

@aral But, if you’re saying everyone should be free to plant GM, well it’s not Monsanto blocking that in Europe.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
