@jonathanstark @aral The choice is between cheap Android devices and Firefox OS. Personally I don't see Firefox OS standing a chance.

@PetrusLundqvist @aral I think FFOS will be more attractive to carriers, otherwise I'd agree with you.

@jonathanstark @aral Developers go where there is money. And that means a large install base where users have money to spend on services.

@PetrusLundqvist @aral I said *web* devs, not devs in general. Web devs know how to monetize - and the web has largest install base.

@jonathanstark @PetrusLundqvist Yes, web devs know how to monetize _data_. We don’t need a platform that encourages yet more closed silos.

@jonathanstark @PetrusLundqvist (The OS being open source is of little consequence if your data ends up in Google’s closed silos.)

@aral @PetrusLundqvist I can't think of a platform that is more open than the web. Yes, there are big players, but they don't control it.

@PetrusLundqvist @aral It's not just the cost of the phone. If the total cost of ownership is lowest for Firefox OS, it'll sell.

@jonathanstark @aral Why would it be lower on Firefox OS than on an Android device? A web device will use *way* more data than an app-one.

@PetrusLundqvist @aral Why? Native apps access data over the network. A plenty of them have a huge initial download.

@jonathanstark @aral Very easy to test and compare e.g. 60 mins or Facebook web usage to initial download plus 60 mins of FB iOS app usage.
