If my Chrome Pixel didn't have to be hacked (to run Crouton) so I can do development, I could see myself switching away from Apple.

@rem I'm tempted - probably get a cheap and cheerful chrome OS laptop for now, not sure I can spring for $1000 plus as an experiment ;-)

@ShaneHudson @johnallsopp @rem Have Samsung Chromebook (w Ubuntu & Luna via Crouton). Would rather shoot myself than use as main machine.

@aral @ShaneHudson @johnallsopp for me it's got most of the tools I use day to day: a browser. I use a terminal too, and that's about it.

@rem It’s more build quality & infuriating trackpad. Pixel seems much nicer but only played with @creationix’s +@ShaneHudson @johnallsopp

@aral yeah, I've been using mine (pixel) regularly during evenings and weekends. To me, it's tech has the potential to draw me from my MBA

@rem The other thing, of course, is that it is a device for signing into a closed silo (Google). I don’t like that at all.

@aral my apple dependency is the same problem, I'm not quite willing to jump to Linux GUI. Maybe get better at multi-file vim & that'll do

@rem Fair enough (though give ElementaryOS a shot; you might like it). Also get your point re: iCloud, yet Apple’s business model isn’t same

@aral So I guess my priorities are: - Keybindings (can be relearned with effort) - Stability - Simplicity (features and design) - Speed @rem

@aral Also capabilities matter. For example, chromeOS is great for writing chrome packaged apps, but gnome's wm gets confused. @rem
