Microsoft’s JavaScript gesture API for Windows Store apps: http://j.mp/14vMNzP  Delicious! We badly need this for browsers. #mobilism

@globalmoxie Also, we need standards for gestures in browsers. Too many browsers hijack common touch gestures for themselves.

@aral Right on. Web apps always run inside another app, and that app comes in all kinds of flavors with their own gesture conventions. Blech

@globalmoxie @aral but if you want a one-size-fits-all solution, there are very few gestures that are "safe" on all platforms.

@dawuss Exactly right. Given tech headaches AND these UI considerations, we’re effectively limited to swipe and tap inside browsers. @aral

@globalmoxie @aral pinching and double-tapping also seems to work pretty well, but most multi-touch gestures and screen edges are off-limits

@dawuss I’d be reluctant to take page zoom away from users, and browsers rely on double-tap and pinch for that. :/ @aral

@globalmoxie @aral but there's a similar relationship between swipe and scrolling, so same restrictions apply (don't interfere, use locally)

@aral The left and right gesture in Chrome is the biggest annoyance on this earth
