@aral Ah, now we have agreement! My point was that Islam isn't more violent in message than any other religion.

@shrikeh I think that is terribly unfair to the Quakers, don’t you? Of course some are more violent than others :) -
@aral 100% of ppl are dicks. If there were 100k suicide bombers worldwide, that would be less than 4% of UK Muslim population. Islam is HUGE -
@shrikeh I tend to believe that most people are good. Especially if we don’t brainwash them at an early age with dangerous fairy tales. -
@aral No argument there, but saying one load of fairy tales is worse than another overlooks social political & economic regional factors. -
@shrikeh So two religions could advocate polar opposite responses to the same ethical questions and be equivalent? I fail to understand. -
@aral I think that's off topic. My point is that both advocate people killed, cities destroyed, turning people to salt, etc for defiance.

@aral It's surprising how religious - esp Muslims - generally manage to lead decent lives based on such dreadful foundations -
@JandMo Indeed; I do have a lot of respect for people who can be good despite being indoctrinated thusly. -
@aral Seems like a lot of unnecessary work, though: cherry-picking, and justifying the unjustifiable -
@JandMo You’ll get no argument from me :)

@aral be fearful of ignorance, not generalized groups of people. -
@alecperkins It’s not just that, however: children get taught this stuff as truth at school. It’s not simply ignorance. -
@aral that's institutionalized ignorance, which is perhaps the most fearful. -
@alecperkins Yep. Religion is institutionalised ignorance :)

@aral Judaism & Christianity are peaceful religions... -
@sidchip64 Man, you gotta tell that especially to the God of the Old Testament because he seems to have a slight tendency to mass murder :) -
@aral ...apart from when man used it for his own ends. This is not unique to religion, but to secular regimes too. Depends on the leader :) -
@sidchip64 I see very few people blowing themselves up in the name of atheism. -
@aral I can see plenty of evidence in regimes that have tried to eradicate religion...
