@aral Even better: More academic conferences which expect a 2–4 page abstract, the talk and paying for the ticket, hotel, travel. Ridiculus.
…Many don’t even pay travel/hotel even though they cost hundreds, if not thousands to attend.

@yatil They make you pay for a ticket to speak? It should be legal to shoot these people. What scum. -
@aral Well, I heard it is pretty common in academic circles as it is advertisement for your book/publication/whatever… -
@yatil Well, I guess you’re paying or an advertising slot to sell. Not interested in attending sales pitches :) -
@aral Right. Never interested in speaking there anyway. (CSUN, the most important a11y conference is one of them: http://www.csun.edu/cod/conference/2013/sessions/index.php/public/website_pages/view/6 …)

@aral as a conf organizer I always pay as much as I can to speakers to cover hotel + travel -
@grmpyprogrammer The most important thing is for conferences to try. Some make it a badge of honor that they don’t :)

@aral Wow, at £35 a ticket we gave each speaker food & drink, hotel, travel & managed an iPod each + anything they needed. -
@de Yes, it’s about focus and whether or not they respect their speakers. Many don’t. -
@aral That’s such a shame. I felt so lucky to be able to have a night with so many people I admire and respect.

@aral That said: Since I request travel and hotel, I have a lot of unsuccessful CFPs here. (But that’s accessibility anyway…)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
