Good sale to Yahoo … fabulous achievement http://summly.com/about.html

@aral They are going to kill it. “Summly will now close, but it’s technologies will be used in other Yahoo products” reports the BBC. -
@aegirthor I just don’t support free products anymore. Why help someone build their business only to be rewarded by product getting axed? -
@aral Exactly. Everyone switched to Feedly from Reader, but Feedly is free. Surely the same thing will happen there too? -
@aegirthor Yeah, I tweeted@feedly to ask if they had a paid plan & if not what their business model is. Crickets. - 1 more reply

@aral do you honestly think that guy started it, thinking "I'm going to build this and sell it for millions, muhahaha"? -
@dougaitken No idea. Some do. Just saying, I’ve built up a healthy scepticism of free services in the last decade or so. -
@aral with all the acquisitions the last few years, I can understand! I'm sure it often starts out without that intent though :)

@aral in fairness I think $30m to a 17 year old is likely to turn his head. I think working at Yahoo is going to be an education -
@crispinheath More power to the 17 year old. I just don’t like the ‘build a free business to sell model’. Feels exploitative. -
@aral show me a business that isn't exploitative.

@aral (Ideally there wouldn’t be one, they’d be looking to build a long term business) - 1 more reply
