.@aral if there's no competition on existing standards support or R&D of new dev-facing features, how are these going to improve?
-
-
-
.
@tobie There will always be competition on user experience. They shouldn’t be competing on basic infrastructure. -
.
@aral why would a browser vendor invest resources to create and implement new standards if that doesn't improve his position in the market? -
.
@tobie At some point browser vendors have to realise that they are competing w other platforms & have a shared interest in infrastructure. -
.
@aral except the same browser vendors are also the owner of these other platforms they're competing against. Conflict of interest much? -
@tobie Hence why it would make sense to have a web kernel. There are conflicts of interest everywhere. W3C is full of corporate interests.

@aral There are multiple ways to implement a specified outcome. Diversity in implementations has resulted in a performance race.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral While we tend to notice the standards part more, when it comes to marketing to users, they really do push their app's experience imo.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral Should. With Webkit, it ain’t. Webkit doesn’t get some basics right. - End of conversation

@aral Surely Microsoft did that for a long time? But supporting its own users’ experience rather than everyone. Thus web standards.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
