Designers, developers, designer-developers. Read this. Design isn’t decoration. RT @aral: Design is not veneer. http://aralbalkan.com/notes/design-is-not-veneer/ …

@laurakalbag @aral That's enough to put anyone off trying to design.

@anna_debenham @aral Agree. For someone approaching design for the first time it reads as aggressive, hectoring and overly demanding.

@aegirthor I am sorry you feel that way. It is meant to be frank and encourage actually learning design, not shortcuts. +@anna_debenham

@aral I don’t disagree with the facts or intent of it. Anna’s article was kind, forgiving and encouraging though, which is why it was good.

@aegirthor …I’ve pretty much said what I wanted to on the subject in the article. Would be interested in reading your views in > 140 chars.

@aral Some aspects of design *are* veneer (it’s a broad discipline!) and offer a few easy and encouraging openings to deeper understanding.

@aral @aegirthor I think it would be a more positive article if it recommended books/tutorials where people can learn more about design.

@anna_debenham @aral you can't go wrong with @markboulton's http://www.fivesimplesteps.com/products/a-practical-guide-to-designing-for-the-web … it covers all the fundamentals IMO cc @aegirthor
