@aral (I agree w/ what you said, but then Gnome 3.x immediately came to mind, and that's a great example of design-driven-development...)

@SoberBuildEng I’ll look into their process but what I mean is experience/service design. Design the whole experience. Hardware + software. -
@aral Gotcha; seems like that'd be hard w/ open source; controlling entire stack, a la AAPL, is somewhat against the ethos cf. Mozilla & b2g -
@SoberBuildEng Totally against it today. Unless we change that, they haven’t a hope in competing in consumer space. It’s not an easy task.

@aral Examples of open source not competing in this way? -
@SoberBuildEng Every open source product currently in the consumer space. -
@aral ... Such as? (i.e. For instance, would you consider Gnome an example?)

@aral What's the biggest open source area you think needs some design love? -
@richquick I want to see a fully‐open product that competes on UX. Ideally a phone to start with. -
@aral Is a phone not a bit of a hard 1 to start with? Anything software-wise that you think'd be an obvs first-choice? (I can think of lots)
