Of those people who have been doing something for 30 years, the ones who you listen to are those who don't point out that fact
@pilky A little passive-aggressive rant on my bio on the iOS development workshop page? :)
-
-
@aral No, there was this guy on the dev forums yesterday who was wrong, insisted he was right and kept quoting his years of experience -
@pilky Hah :) I wasn’t sure whether to include it, to be honest. Maybe ‘nearly all his life’ would be better. :) -
@aral Using your years of experience in a bio is fine. Is when you use it to back up an argument that its bad :p -
@pilky Can’t argue with that :)

@aral there was about 6 pages of him saying "this is broken" and everyone else saying "no, you're just misunderstanding it" :p -
@pilky Oh I’ve met a few folks like that. The past owes you no favours in this industry (and nor should it) :) -
@aral Well, the past can help you, I just find those who it has helped don't keep trying to use it over you in discussions -
@pilky True, it’s just that things change so fast. Experience is valuable but only if you love learning new things & adapting :)

@aral I think it was referencing a discussion on the apple dev forum over == & isEqual: being different, and someone refusing to accept it. -
@_matt_cannon They had trouble reading basic documentation? :) -
@aral convinced it changed in iOS6, over being lucky their code ever worked. not grasping obj-c objects being pointers:https://devforums.apple.com/thread/168948 -
@_matt_cannon Yeah, it didn’t change, it just became stricter :)
