@barry_richards Columns as implemented today are broken. With proper reflow, they’re fine. +@laurakalbag @leftydesigner @chriseppstein

@aral I think columns can be useful, but are being pushed for the wrong reasons (old school attachment to print styles)@barry_richards -
@laurakalbag Not saying use everywhere; but definitely nice to have for responsive designs at widescreen aspect ratios +@barry_richards -
@aral I have nightmares about columned everything with revoltingly poorly-spaced justified text. So much room for abuse@barry_richards -
@laurakalbag As with all things :) +@barry_richards

@aral completely disagree. Reading from top to bottom on screen is natural, returning to top is unnecessary effort +@barry_richards -
@laurakalbag Couldn’t agree more. However, you don’t have to implement vertical scrolling. +@barry_richards -
@aral I’m not talking about scrolling, just moving your eyes in that way isn’t comfortable@barry_richards -
@laurakalbag I fail to see the difference with print. Is it also the same on an iPad? What if the iPad was made of paper? +@barry_richards -
@aral I feel the same way about iPad, though that and print are *slightly* different due to fixed viewing spaces +@barry_richards
