@aral Very true. I’d guess you would go by the users location? Is there a way to get the user’s preferred language from the browser?
…Apple should set the language of the message to the language of the store that the user is using. Anything else is superficial pageantry.

@thisisthechris There is the accept-language header but it’s not always reliable.

@aral again no they shouldn’t. That’d give me Spanish all over the place. I set my locale to English for a reason, RESPECT IT! -
@jtregunna Fair enough, respect accept-language header first & default to store language if it’s not set, & give people manual override :-) -
@aral I like that. That’s my biggest gripe with web apps, they tend to geolocate and assume I’m a spanish speaker.

@aral The extra languages seem a bit like multi-sport tickers: you may not understand everything you see, but the extra info causes no harm. -
@bdsexton Page loads. You're not concentrating and miss the message in English. You look back & see a message in Japanese. Usability fail. -
@aral The same could be said of a content rotator, a news ticker, or a movie but looping gets back to the missed language. Thus, no failure.

@aral Well, I don’t agree about that Aral, as I think it was kinda cool :-) -
@bonkowski It was showing off at the expense of usability—the kind of thing that Apple was good at staying away from in the past. -
@aral I do see your point, but I still find it cool and playful. I think that should be allowed when in this setting.

@aral Not necessarily, my partner prefers to use the english language, but due to location has to use the Dutch app(le) store. -
@MarjoleinKl Then they should provide a manual override :) Throwing 18 languages in rotation is just showing off and not usable :) -
@aral Fair enough ;)

@aral I don't know about where you are, but multi-lingualism is part of Silicon Valley culture. It's a bit like in Blade Runner and Firefly.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral I disagree. Artistic license aside, Apple, its devices, many of its users, and even just one regional Apple Store are multi-lingual.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
