We’re at a 50/50 moment for the web. We’ve created something amazing together, but half the world is still not online, and our online rights and freedoms are at risk. The web has done so much for us, but now we need to stand up #ForTheWeb #WebSummit

I’ve just shared a new contract #ForTheWeb at #WebSummit. It’s going to take all of us - citizens, governments and companies - to solve the challenges that face our web today. Check out the starting principles and supporters:https://contractfortheweb.org/

No, Tim, the very companies that created #SurveillanceCapitalism aren’t going to fix it. It works great for them (to the tune of 100s of billions of $s every year). I can’t explain how disappointing it is to see your initiative VC-funded and associated with Google and Facebook.

Exactly my sentiments, too. Facebook and Google signing the charter IS NOT indicative of any hope and future for the web. They’re the ones killing it.

Yes very disappointing to see the likes of Google and Facebook in there, they’re hardly going to respect people’s privacy as their business models rely on exploiting personal information and privacy.

I agree - including companies like Google, Facebook, etc. is pointless. We need a brand new web that is censorship proof.

If anything it should be the people telling companies and governments what *we* want, rather that #SurveillanceCapitalism companies dictating what they think we should have.
