Hey @Mozilla, here's my story about experiencing surveillance, like you asked: I recently installed a browser called Firefox. The default search engine was Google, a surveillance capitalist that makes its money by tracking, profiling, & manipulating you… https://twitter.com/michellemanafy/status/1018917444478558208 …pic.twitter.com/vTM81HPLP6

…I was being tracked every time I wrote into the address bar. (Apparently, the browser maker receives billions from Google.) Then, I saw that third-party cookies were on by default and tracking protection was off by default…

…Finally, I realised I'd been sharing data and was enrolled in "studies" with the browser maker. The browser was a surveillance device by default but I was told that that was OK because I had “a choice”. I could go into the settings & turn off the surveillance if I wanted to…

…Surveillance by default is surveillance. Settings & options & “choice” are not alternatives to safe defaults. An organisation that has unsafe defaults for its products is not your friend. Mozilla is a surveillance capitalist. And a multibillion-dollar hypocrite. </end>

I mean, which browser should I use, instead of Firefox?

Ah. Well, if you turn off all the surveillance I mentioned you can keep using Firefox if you want (just don’t promote them as anything other than what they are). Personally, I’ve started Gnome Web (beautiful, private by default) on desktop & the @duckduckgo browser on mobile.
