Some folks are asking “What is Pop!_OS” – it’s the excellent Linux distribution aimed at developers by @System76.

If you’re in the US, you can (and should) order a very similar computer to the one I got called Galago Pro that’s built on the same base.

What is Pop OS? Never heared about it
-
Check it out, it’s awesome: https://system76.com/pop It’s the Linux distribution by
@system76 that’s built on Gnome Shell & Ubuntu 18.04. It’s what made me realise I can now switch to Linux and not hate my everyday existence :) -
That's fantastic
-
I’d love to chat soon: meeting Todd (
@Puri_sm) at the Public Stack Summit in Amsterdam next week & I want us to see if we can’t get (at least a loose) transatlantic coalition going (with folks like@TUXEDOComputers too) so we can pool effort/push Linux PCs into the mainstream.

Are you switching to Firefox too?
-
I don’t know. Is there a version with private defaults? If not, it might be a project to create such a fork. Will have to look into it.
-
Exactly what are you looking for? Automatic startup in Private Browsing Mode? Or less "phone home" than regular FF?
-
Private defaults. The kind you’d have if your organisation didn’t depend on billions of dollars from Alphabet, Inc. to survive.
-
Try Pale Moon, I'd say. A FF fork by people that felt FF/Mozilla wasn't doing the right thing (ethically as well as technically) any more.
-
Will do, thank you :)

Ah cool I switched to Pop!_OS earlier this year for personal dev use & wouldn't go back now. I'd be interested to know why you chose a Tuxedo machine?
-
Afaik, apart from Purism Librem & Dell XPS, ~ all other Linux-preinstalled laptops are based on Clevo barebones. Would’ve gone with Librem if not for the screen resolution. Dell… well… ;) I wanted a supplier that was “local” (EU) & they were proactive (reached out) and kind :)
-
My experience with Dell: their local (Belgium) website is atrocious and the order process is straight out of the nineties, but god damn, that XPS is some good hardware.
-
Indeed, I loved it when I tried the previous version in a store here but it’s just a niche product for them (& currently hundreds of Euros more expensive than the same machine with Windows – no way I’m supporting that). The Lenovo X1 Carbon also looked amazing… but Lenovo ;)
-
I just ordered the Windows box and wiped it when it arrived. Bought XPS system for gf and family members too, they all love the 13" XPS. I was so stupid to get the 15" (needed discrete GPU for CUDA work),which is still impressive, but portability is meh compared to those cute 13s

do they deliver all over Europe?
-
Yes. See for details: https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Shipping-Returns.tuxedo … (List not complete!)
-
thanks! now THAT's interesting.
-
Switzerland included, of course. ;-) For any further needs just get in touch and we're trying to find a way.
-
how come I never heard of you guys!?!?!
-
Let’s help change that, Adrian :) You in? ;)
-
man I was about to buy a
@system76 Galago Pro, but these guys are almost next door from my home :))) -
Well, I think what’s important here is to understand that System76 and Tuxedo, etc., aren’t competitors—they’re all competing against the big boys. What I want to see is a decentralised global coalition… will be running the idea by Todd (
@Puri_sm) next week. Cooperation is key. - 2 more replies
