Hi Aral and Francois, the dev edition pricing in Ireland seems a bit high :) I'm guessing it's a glitch, ill ping the team in Europe. Could you find it on the French site? I appreciate you both flagging this!
-
Thanks, Barton, I thought it was a mistake :) It looks like the Ubuntu version is €200.40 cheaper than the Windows version on the French store. (Go to http://dell.fr and search for XPS 13 to find the listings.)pic.twitter.com/BriKHiBDaE
-
No, wait, sorry, the other way around. Also more expensive (€290.04) on the French store but by less (in my defense, it’s quite late here and I should be asleep and those sites are damn confusing) :)pic.twitter.com/OR62OVOuFr

Hey Aral, I just emailed the team in Europe to look into this. Every so often there is a glitch that throws things out of whack which results in pricing errors. Stand by!
-
Thanks, Barton. Appreciate it… here’s to removing another obstacle to its adoption :)
-
I just heard back from our team member in the UK. He checked the Irish site and the said pricing is back to where it should be. Let me know if you find the same thing (fingers crossed :) . If not, pls send a link so i can make sure we are all talking about the same page. thx!
-
Thanks, Barton. Doesn’t look like it though. It seems they removed 4 cents from the price (exc. VAT), which comes out to over 3,000 Euros including VAT. And they also have one, same config, at 2,979 including VAT. Looks like they’re having issues :) http://pilot.search.dell.com/xps%2013 pic.twitter.com/2YyJAXVrYk

The difference is the revenue that crapware makers give Dell for all the junk that is included in the Windows install. But that was a rhetorical question, right ?
-
Well, if it’s not a mistake at least we’ll have a Euro amount on exactly how much one computer user’s privacy is worth to
@Microsoft (€630) – might be a good baseline figure to use when calculating privacy-related legislation/fines in the future. (CC@PaulNemitz@maxschrems) -
Dell is more on the spot than Microsoft in that scenario. The potential financial return of privacy violations from Microsoft is already factored in the price of the license they charge Dell. The comparison between 2 prices is how much Dell loses as far as 3rd parties revenue.
-
Well, regardless, if this isn’t a mistake then there’s something very wrong here and I intend to get to the bottom of it. I still feel it’s probably just a typo that someone made while entering the price in their database. Let’s see what they say/do.
