I can agree in a philosophical sense that 'there's nothing humane or responsible about war' but it seems to me that pragmatically, such does not excuse an ethicist from weighing in on systems & protocols that seek to lessen war's impact on humans & societies.

The problem is, for war to stop, all societies and collections of humans need to simultaneously agree that they won't gain from war. Even one disagreeing means all the others have no choice if they want to survive.
