Is Marth actually a bad character on his own or is he only considered bad because Lucina exists and is almost always a better option? If Lucina didn't exist would Marth be considered high tier or does his lack of consistent killpower really hinder him that much?

That feels like an accurate assessment of the situation. It just seemed weird to me that a lot of top players rank Marth in low tier and Lucina in high tier very often when on his own he doesn't seem quite bad enough to be strictly low tier
The biggest thing is that it would make the concept of a Marth main a little unconventional because there's another character who is an improvement on every level. Then again I guess the same could be said when comparing Pit and Palutena who while not echoes have similar movesets
