There is a HUGE power disparity between these two groups though, straight people have faced zero oppression for their sexuality so they never have to actually fear being harassed for who they are. You're presenting a centrist opinion that ignores the actual minority.

An LGBT person making fun of someone for being straight will never have the same effect as a straight person making fun of someone for being LGBT. Only one of these groups will ever be in danger from hateful remarks. Only one of these groups has been beaten for their identity.

I think it's fair for people to be worried about the spread of homophobia because that's the sentiment that gets our rights taken away. Straight people will simply never have that same experience in regards to their sexuality and therefore do not have to worry about it

Straight people aren't losing jobs for being homophobic because they're the ones in power, and those who are losing their jobs likely should be because the words they use promote violence and hate. We shouldn't have to be thankful for human rights, everyone already deserves them
