As a kid boyscouts helped shape the persona I am today. I am proud of the shifts that the “scouts” are making. Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, reverent, and Inclusive! Bravo!!!

There is not one thing I learned as a scout that would have been diminished by inclusion of all. In fact one of the best experiences I had as a scout what when we were lead by a woman ranger while hiking Philmont New Mexico.

I really can't see how doing away with the boy scouts and allowing the girl scouts is fair. If one must be inclusive all should be for the sake of equality and to cut down on the cookie bills.

The girl scouts is a completely different organization, the BSA has no say in what they decide to do. The BSA has approached them about merging several times, the GSA was always the one to refuse.

Good for the GSA. I think they should stay apart. Why would any mother sign her daughter up for the boys scouts? They do almost the same activities and learn interaction with others. Why are males being placed under attack?

They actually have a completely different program, set of ranks/requirements, mission statement/motto, outdoor activities, etc. Most girls complain about not getting to do the things they wanted to. The idea of the change is to duplicate the current Scout program for girls.

I've got a whole mess of Rangers wondering who took out your trek. Care share your expedition number or a year and date? Behind them, backcountry staff wondering who branded your boots. Thanks!

I really agree with what you say accept that the boy scouts were a place for boys. It gave them freedom to just be, much like the girl scouts do for girls. Should the girl scouts be elimated to combine the group?

But troops aren't going to be co-ed. They will just make scout troops for girls with the same structure and requirements as for boys. Also, the GSA (Girl Scouts of America) is a different organization entirely.

Since the GSA already exist, what was the point? They just wanted to start their own GSA because dividing the troops based on gender is doing just that. Is this about money or what?

They are both great programs just two very different programs. There are a lot of girls that want the program offered by the BSA. This is a good thing. More youth being served by character development and leadership programs. I have 2 girls who can’t wait.

I don't think girls should be allowed in "boy" scouts. Boys act different around girls. They are mean to friends they would not normally be mean to just to be cool. Boys should be in boy scouts and girls should stick to girl scouts.

They will be in single gender troops, not co-ed. This is just a chance for girls to do the same program in all girl troops. More youth being served by a strong character development and leadership program =a win for our communities.

Hi Ashton- former Philmont ranger here - a special place with a strong connection to both the wilderness and the way scouting should be. Met a lot of great Mormons as well. Changed my life, and hope it changes my daughter’s life someday. When did you go?

Thanks so much for those kind words. You are correct. Nothing will diminish the program for the young men. I applaud your words, Ashton. Its about time the young ladies get to join more than only the Venturing program. Thanks from a NY Scouter and NYPD Mom.
