Words cannot express my gratitude. The people of the Bronx and Queens, and countless supporters across the country, elected us on a clear mandate to fight for economic + social justice in the United States of America. And that is what we will do.

  4. Republican hypocrisy at its finest: saying that Trump admitting to sexual assault on tape is just “locker room talk,” but scandalizing themselves into faux-outrage when my sis says a curse word in a bar. GOP lost entitlement to policing women’s behavior a long time ago. Next.

  5. This is a good discussion of AOC's call for a top tax rate of 70-80%. Tl; dr: she's actually saying what top public finance economists have been saying for some time. Not at all outlandish. 1/

  7. The GOP can attack ⁦⁩ all it wants but she just danced her way to the wood of the ⁦⁩ with a proposal the newspaper wouldn’t have even covered before. So troll her at your own risk. She’s a leader who just jumpstarted the conversation on a major issue.

  10. Yesterday we started a convo w/ the rules pkg about ending , a political policy lacking economic merit that sabotages progress where Americans value it most: healthcare, education, housing, & more. Today I’m proud to cosponsor legislation w/ to end it.

  11. Lip+hoops were inspired by Sonia Sotomayor, who was advised to wear neutral-colored nail polish to her confirmation hearings to avoid scrutiny. She kept her red. Next time someone tells Bronx girls to take off their hoops, they can just say they’re dressing like a Congresswoman.

A quick thread on the economics of a much higher top rate for the super-rich. TL;DR version is that is on very solid ground here. There is a lot of evidence that from an economic and fiscal perspective, we'd be way better off with top rates approaching 70.

  14. also nodded to young candidates running for office. "But I think it is really part of the larger question about who should run and how we should run and I think it is great. You can be young and run for office. You can have joy in life and run for office."

  16. Asked re this dancing video. She said: "It is not normal for elected officials to have a reputation for dancing well and I'm happy to be one." & "It is unsurprising to me that Republicans would think having fun should be disqualifying or illegal"

Sometimes we take for granted exactly how radical ideas like Social Security, the VA, and public schooling really are: that we will care for our elders, provide healthcare, and educate *all* children in America free of cost at the point of service.
