Not sure if it's a good thing. We kind of use uber (and other services like that) to have fair fixed prices and not having to negotiate for that. Also, to not get fooled at a new place! I don't know about drivers, but i guess customers would not like that.

Fully agree! This seems to be more regulation driven than a global change they'd make. If that's the case, the silver lining is that it will be restricted to California only (for now

What the article says is a 'response to new gig law' is actually Uber trying to escape regulation under AB5 which aims to classify driver partners as employees Sadly this isnt going to happen everywhere

Auction model is great. Sorely needed to restore profitability to drivers and service quality. Not sure about not penalised for cancelling. Presumably Uber drivers will game system. That’s what killed early apps like Hailo imho. Price is secondary to reliability.
