The #GlobalGoals are the world’s promise to create a better future for all.
My thanks to and for joining our global movement to deliver that promise.
We can move forward with hope, conviction and each other.

In this moment of peril, I must underscore my duty as Secretary-General to uphold the Charter.
The Charter is clear.
Any annexation of a State’s territory by another State resulting from the threat or use of force is a violation of the Principles of the Charter & int’l law.
Under the present circumstances, I must change my appeal:
President Putin, in the name of humanity, bring your troops back to Russia.
This conflict must stop now.
It is immoral for oil & gas companies to be making record profits from the current energy crisis on the backs of the poorest, at a massive cost to the climate.
I urge all governments to tax these excessive profits & use the funds to support the most vulnerable people.
Today I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world.
It is time to put armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives – the #COVID19 pandemic.

Let’s stop sleepwalking towards the destruction of our planet by climate change.
Today, it is Pakistan. Tomorrow, it could be your country.
I have never seen climate carnage on the scale of the floods here in Pakistan.
As our planet continues to warm, all countries will increasingly suffer losses and damage from climate beyond their capacity to adapt.
This is a global crisis. It demands a global response.
Climate activists are sometimes depicted as dangerous radicals.
But the truly dangerous radicals are the countries that are increasing the production of fossil fuels.
Investing in new fossil fuels infrastructure is moral and economic madness.
When journalists are attacked, societies are attacked.
No democracy can function without press freedom nor can any society be fair without journalists who investigate wrongdoing and speak truth to power.
Racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism & Islamophobia are poisoning our societies. We must stand up against them. Every time. Everywhere.
I have just warned global leaders at #COP27:
We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.
Our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible.
We need urgent #ClimateAction.
I’m deeply concerned by the fires in the Amazon rainforest. In the midst of the global climate crisis, we cannot afford more damage to a major source of oxygen and biodiversity.
The Amazon must be protected.
I was moved by the generosity of people affected by the Pakistan floods toward one another.
They have opened their homes & shared what they have.
This is an example of solidarity for all countries as the impacts of the climate crisis continue to impact the most vulnerable.
Welcome to New York, !
The determination and perseverance shown during your journey should embolden all of us taking part in next month's #ClimateAction Summit.
We must deliver on the demands of people around the world and address the global climate crisis.
Kofi Annan was a guiding force for good. I join the world in mourning his loss. In these turbulent and trying times, his legacy as a global champion for peace will remain a true inspiration for us all. bit.ly/2L8R86Y
I have arrived in Pakistan to express my deep solidarity with the Pakistani people after the devastating floods here.
I appeal for massive support from the international community as Pakistan responds to this climate catastrophe.
My message to the youth of today:
Do not take up careers with the climate wreckers.
I urge you to be the generation that succeeds in addressing the planetary emergency of climate change.
Pakistan is one of the most consistent and reliable contributors to efforts around the world.
I am travelling to Pakistan, where I plan to express my gratitude to the people #ServingForPeace.
Pakistan and other developing countries are paying a horrific price for the intransigence of big emitters that continue to bet on fossil fuels.
From Islamabad, I am issuing a global appeal:
Stop the madness.
Invest in renewable energy now.
End the war with nature.
I'm very frustrated that global leaders are still not giving the climate emergency the action and investment it requires.
Words are not enough.
Without #ClimateAction, climate catastrophe is coming for all of us.
When we destroy forests, overfish or burn coal, we are increasing gross domestic product.
It’s time to change an accounting system that counts the destruction of the planet as if it was the production of richness.
I am disappointed with the results of #COP25.
The international community lost an important opportunity to show increased ambition on mitigation, adaptation & finance to tackle the climate crisis.
But we must not give up, and I will not give up.
All people are born equal.
Supremacy is an evil lie.
Racism kills.
#FightRacism
I call on the Myanmar military to stop the repression immediately.
Release the prisoners. End the violence. Respect human rights, and the will of the people expressed in recent elections.
Coups have no place in our modern world.
There is always room for debate around opinions.
There is no room for debate around facts.
We need to make lying wrong again.
Tonight, I have only one thing to say, from the bottom of my heart:
President Putin, stop your troops from attacking Ukraine.
Give peace a chance.
Too many people have already died.
I am deeply honoured and grateful for the trust placed in me to serve as the Secretary-General of the United Nations for a second term.
Serving the is an immense privilege and a most noble duty.
Mahatma Gandhi was an uncompromising advocate for peaceful co-existence, non-discrimination & pluralism.
The new installation located at Headquarters will serve as a reminder of the values Gandhi upheld, and to which we must remain committed.
As the world is following events in Afghanistan with a heavy heart, I urge all countries to be willing to receive Afghan refugees & refrain from deportations.
Afghans have known generations of war & hardship. They deserve our full support.
Now is the time for solidarity.
The first International Day to Combat Islamophobia is a call for action to stamp out the poison of anti-Muslim hatred.
Discrimination diminishes us all. We must stand up against it.
Today & every day, we must counter the forces of division by reaffirming our common humanity.
I am deeply shocked by the images of civilians killed in Bucha, Ukraine.
It is essential that an independent investigation leads to effective accountability.
Today we honour the memory of the six million Jews & millions of others who were systematically murdered in the Holocaust.
Our best tribute to Holocaust victims & survivors is to create a world of equality, justice & dignity for all.
#HolocaustRemembranceDay
I concluded my visit to Pakistan after enjoying the rich history and vibrant culture of Lahore - from the Lahore Fort, a World Heritage Site, to the majestic Badshahi mosque.
Thank you to the people of Pakistan for a wonderful visit!
The was born out of war to end war.
Today, that objective was not achieved.
But we must never give up.
We must give peace another chance.
The Pakistani people are facing a monsoon on steroids. More than 1000 people have been killed - with millions more lives shattered.
This colossal crisis requires urgent, collective action to help the Government & people of Pakistan in their hour of need.
#COVID19 does not care about nationality or ethnicity, faction or faith. It attacks all, relentlessly.
Meanwhile, armed conflict rages on around the world and the most vulnerable pay the highest price.
That's why I'm calling for an immediate global ceasefire.
I’m saddened & strongly condemn the shooting of innocent people as they prayed peacefully in mosques in New Zealand. I express my deepest condolences to the victims’ families. Today and every day, we must stand united against anti-Muslim hatred, & all forms of bigotry & terror.
As current events make all too clear, our reliance on fossil fuels makes the global economy & our energy security vulnerable to geopolitical crises.
Instead of slowing down decarbonization, now is the time to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy future.
Fossil fuel interests are now cynically using the war in Ukraine to try to lock in a high carbon future.
A shift to renewables is crucial to mending our broken global energy mix & offering hope to millions suffering climate impacts today.
The New Year has begun with our world in turmoil.
My message is clear:
Stop escalation.
Exercise maximum restraint.
Re-start dialogue.
Renew international cooperation.
Let us not forget the terrible human suffering caused by war. It is our common duty to avoid it.
I send my warmest wishes as Muslims around the world begin the holy month of #Ramadan.
This is a time to come together in a spirit of understanding & compassion.
Let us be inspired & build a more just & equitable world for all.
Ramadan Kareem.
Next week, I will meet with President Vladimir Putin in Russia and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine.
We need urgent steps to save lives, end the human suffering and bring about peace in Ukraine.
I call on the Myanmar authorities to suspend military action, end violence, uphold the rule of law & allow humanitarian aid.
#COVID19 has exposed the lie that free markets can deliver healthcare for all, the fiction that unpaid care work isn't work, the delusion that we live in a post-racist world.
We are all floating on the same sea, but some are in superyachts & others clinging to drifting debris.
I am concerned about the perversion of the concept of peacekeeping.
When troops of one country enter the territory of another country without its consent, they are not impartial peacekeepers.
They are not peacekeepers at all.
With the death toll rising, we are seeing images of fear, anguish and terror in every corner of Ukraine.
The protection of civilians must be priority number one.
International humanitarian and human rights law must be upheld.
I condemn the use of deadly violence in Myanmar.
The use of lethal force, intimidation & harassment against peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable.
Everyone has a right to peaceful assembly. I call on all parties to respect election results and return to civilian rule.
Africa has been declared free of polio today.
This historic milestone fills me with hope and optimism.
We can achieve so much when we work together as a global community.
The decisions of the coming days will shape our world and directly affect the lives of millions upon millions of people - in Ukraine, in Russia, and beyond.
It’s not too late to save this generation from the scourge of war.
We need peace.
Fossil fuels are a dead end — for our planet, for humanity and for economies.
A prompt, well-managed transition to renewables is the only pathway to energy security, universal access & the green jobs our world needs.
Social media platforms based on a business model that monetizes anger & negativity are causing untold damage to societies.
Hate speech & misinformation are proliferating.
Our data is being bought & sold to influence behaviour.
We need regulatory frameworks to change this.
My heart broke when I saw the devastation of the floods in Pakistan last year.
But the Pakistani people showed heroic humanity.
The international community must match their resilience with investments to strengthen their communities for the future.

I condemn today’s assault on Brazil’s democratic institutions.
The will of the Brazilian people and the country’s institutions must be respected.
I am confident that it will be so. Brazil is a great democratic country.
New funding for fossil fuel exploration and production infrastructure is delusional.
Fossil fuels are not the answer.
Renewable energy is.
July has already seen:
The hottest three-week period ever recorded.
The three hottest days on record.
The highest-ever ocean temperatures for this time of year.
It is still possible to avoid the very worst of climate change, but only with dramatic, immediate #ClimateAction.
On the International Day of Non-Violence, we celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday & values of peace, respect & the essential dignity shared by everyone.
We can defeat today's challenges by embracing these values & working across cultures & borders to build a better future.
The climate crisis is the number one emergency.
Renewables not only fight the climate crisis, they support energy security.
Renewables are the peace plan of the 21st century.
I'm alarmed by today's announcement by the Taliban that women must cover their faces in public and leave home only in cases of necessity.
I once again urge the Taliban to keep their promises to Afghan women & girls, and their obligations under international human rights law.
Don't stop the refugees; stop the wars that produce them. #WithRefugees
Our world has reached a heart-wrenching milestone: #COVID19 has now claimed two million lives.
Sadly, the impact of the pandemic has been made worse by the absence of global coordination.
In the memory of those two million souls, the world must act with far greater solidarity.
I was honoured to join Holocaust survivors to mark the 76th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.
Holocaust denial, distortion & minimization are resurgent.
We can never let down our guard. We must continue to stand against lies, bigotry & hatred.
I was honoured to visit Pakistan’s newly opened Kartarpur Corridor - a corridor of hope, connecting two key Sikh pilgrimage sites.
This is a welcome symbol of interfaith harmony.
The world has gambled on fossil fuels and lost.
Wind, sun and tides never run out.
If we can successfully replace finite, polluting fossil fuels with infinite renewable resources, we can make the energy equation add up.
The detention of political leaders in Myanmar is a serious blow to democratic reforms in the country.
I urge the military leadership to respect the will of the people & adhere to democratic norms. bit.ly/3as4x8u
The fossil fuel industry is feasting on subsidies & windfall profits while household budgets shrink & our planet burns.
We need to hold the industry and its enablers to account.
At #UNGA, I call on all developed economies to tax the windfall profits of fossil fuel companies.
Pakistan is on the verge of a public health disaster & severe hunger is spiking.
While the rains may have ceased, the effects of the floods will linger for years to come.
I urge donors & relevant organizations to support rehabilitation & reconstruction efforts.
As we begin 2018, I am issuing a red alert for our world. I call for unity – our future depends on it.
I am deeply shocked by the killing of dozens of civilians, including children & young people, by security forces in Myanmar today.
The continuing military crackdown is unacceptable and demands a firm, unified & resolute international response. un.org/sg/en/content/
My message to young people, indigenous communities, women leaders, all those leading on #ClimateAction:
I know you might be disappointed. But we're in the fight of our lives & this fight must be won.
Never give up.
Never retreat.
Keep pushing forward.
I am with you.
#COP26
Peace is not just the absence of war. Many women under lockdown for #COVID19 face violence where they should be safest: in their own homes.
Today I appeal for peace in homes around the world.
I urge all governments to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic.
The #COVID19 pandemic is a crisis that affects everyone.
We must all play our part by showing solidarity with the most vulnerable – the elderly, the sick, those without reliable healthcare.
Together, we can overcome the #coronavirus threat.
Mahatma Gandhi pioneered successive non-violent movements that changed history.
150 years since his birth, Gandhi’s philosophy is at the core of our work at the . May his courage & conviction continue to inspire us on Wednesday’s International Day of Non-Violence & every day.
No more excuses.
No more greenwashing.
No more bottomless greed of the fossil fuel industry and its enablers.
2023 must be a year of game-changing #ClimateAction.
My best wishes to everyone celebrating #Diwali.
May this celebration bring light, joy and prosperity.
Investors are still backing fossil fuels, and governments still hand out billions in subsidies for coal, oil and gas - some $11 million every minute.
For the health of our societies and planet, we need to quit our addiction to fossil fuels.
Now.
Racism continues to be prevalent in our societies.
We must raise our voices against all expressions of racism and instances of racist behaviour. We urgently need to dismantle racist structures and reform racist institutions.
I am deeply saddened at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, admired worldwide for her leadership & devotion.
She was a good friend to the & a reassuring presence through decades of change.
Her unwavering, lifelong dedication will be long remembered.
The combined profits of the largest energy companies in the first quarter of this year are close to $100 billion.
This grotesque greed of the fossil fuel industry and their financiers is punishing the poorest and most vulnerable people, while destroying our only home.
Deeply saddened by the news this morning of the plane crash in Ethiopia, claiming the lives of all on board. My heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims — including our own staff — who perished in this tragedy.
On this New Year’s Day, I ask all of you to join me in making one shared resolution:
Let us make 2017 a year for peace.
The so-called “referenda” in Ukraine were conducted in areas under Russian occupation.
They can’t be called a genuine expression of the popular will.
Any decision by Russia to go forward will further jeopardize the prospects for peace.
Political leaders are not acting quickly enough to win the race against the climate emergency. I trust young people like to push my generation, to push their parents, to push societies to save our planet & our future. bit.ly/2XqQSqP

I was moved by the resilience and bravery of the people of Ukraine. My message to them is simple: We will not give up.
The will redouble its efforts to save lives and reduce human suffering. In this war, as in all wars, the civilians always pay the highest price.
The current model of infinite growth in a world of finite physical resources will deliver inflation, climate chaos & conflict.
The solution is clear: infinite renewable resources – wind, sun, tides - are at our disposal to solve our energy needs.
The #UNGA has spoken and the message is loud and clear:
End hostilities in Ukraine — now.
Silence the guns — now.
Open the door to dialogue and diplomacy — now.
My message to young people:
You are leading the way in the urgent race against the climate crisis.
You are standing up and speaking out.
You are on the right side of history.
Keep pushing us to do the right thing.

We cannot afford slow movers, fake movers, or any form of greenwashing, in our race against the climate crisis.
The transition to net-zero must be swift, credible, just and inclusive.
I condemn the heinous terrorist attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, a sacred day for Christians. The UN stands in solidarity with Sri Lanka as the global community fights hatred and violent extremism together. Holy sites must be respected.
Global oil companies are reporting 2022 as their most profitable year in history.
Meanwhile, the planet continues to burn as household budgets shrink.
We must change course. The only credible direction to take is away from fossil fuels & towards renewable energy.
The latest report is a litany of broken climate promises.
Some government & business leaders are saying one thing, but doing another.
They are lying.
It is time to stop burning our planet.
Humanitarian needs in Ukraine are multiplying by the hour.
Civilians are dying. At least 100,000 Ukrainians have already reportedly fled their homes.
staff are scaling up the delivery of life-saving support. Their safety and freedom of movement must be guaranteed.
One year ago, I issued a red alert to the world. The dangers still exist, but I also see reasons for hope. In 2019, let us build on them and create a better future for all. Happy New Year.
I spoke today with and conveyed the determination of the to enhance humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.
Respect for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians are now paramount.
Today in India I recalled the words of Mahatma Gandhi:
“The world has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed.”
The planet can support all of us – if we treat its resources with wisdom & respect.
Today’s declaration of a #COVID19 pandemic is a call to action – for everyone, everywhere.
It’s also a call for responsibility & solidarity – as nations united and as people united.
As we fight the virus, we cannot let fear go viral.
Let’s overcome this common threat together.
I am deeply honoured to serve as the Secretary-General of the United Nations for a second term, starting today.
Working for the and the people of the world in an immense privilege. I will continue to serve with humility, in the spirit of building trust and inspiring hope.
The Holocaust didn’t start with the gas chambers.
The genocides in Rwanda and Cambodia didn’t start with mass killings.
They started with discrimination & hate speech.
Let’s pay tribute to genocide victims by fighting for prevention through equality – in our words & actions.
Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating! May we all draw inspiration from the values of empathy, charity and compassion that are celebrated during #EidAlAdha.
