When you first talk to a rabbi about conversion, the two topics on the agenda are circumcision and, if you were raised Christian, what your thoughts are on this Christ business. Your wee-wee and Jesus, that's what you talk about, and in very serious tones too.

Definitely. Christianity is both an extreme (elevation of "strength from the weak" to "celebrating suffering") and more universal (it isn't a covenant). I think these are historically driven...(see next tweet)

Christianity was persecuted for rejecting Roman pantheism, so elevating suffering was a way to make martyring more tolerable. Similarly, the Roman Empire was uniquely expansive, so religious universalism may have only been intellectually possible by the time of Christ.
