The lock-in model of CPAs is amazing. This guy has all my earnings data, carry-forward losses and returns, and is dialed in on my financial life. If I don't go with him (as I did once), I'll make mistakes that will cost me thousands. I can't not pay him. Until death do us part.

I moved from Bay Area to Pennsylvania in October and the difference in what my CPAs charged for the same job is pretty eye opening. Bay Area CPA for 2019 taxes- $1,200; Pennsylvania CPA for 2020 taxes - $575. And the return my PA CPA did was more complicated.

Sounds about right for the SFBA, and about what I pay. California, man.
