I once got a piece of fan email from a Federal inmate who'd been involved in a huge mortgage fraud scheme that had defrauded poor people. Inmates can apparently email family (but nobody else) so the mother would pass along email messages to whoever her son wanted her to contact.
She mistakenly forwarded me their entire thread when she first emailed me, and you could read the absolutely unconditional, solicitous love from the mother as she tried to help her inmate son contact the outside world, despite his crimes. "The hand that rocks the cradle...."
