Alternative take: system doesn't care the motives, pathologies behind building. Just amplifies creative destruction to maximize change+wealth. True winners --pensions, endowments, inst'ns that do good-- spew returns broadly. Add taxes + rich people dying and voila, civilization.

Right. Except that much of that great wealth is *not* taxed. And the wealthy would cheat death medically if they could (which, who knows, they may be able to one day).
-
The world you describe is one of Benthamesque utilitarianism, which is more or less our default moral principle these days; the bean-counters have defeated the priests and rabbis. But such a world could include all sorts of evils along with it. Ours already does.
-
It seems more reasonable to design society function well in the presence various moral strategies as opposed to assuming everyone will be successful at living stoically or deontologically. If the shock absorbers need maintenance let's fix them.

Antonio is absolutely correct. Tbh I am surprised he is allowed to say this while working at Wired, as this is nothing like anyone is the MSM has uttered- correct me if I’m wrong. I applaud the honesty. This is much more than about money, this is about having it all.

The point on sociopathy is right on. I’ve worked w/many such folks over the years in tech. People need 2realize that this is not just a funny descriptive; as if such people could just b nice, or do kind things if they wanted to. This is the sort of tough dialogue we need to start

You become a saint for starting a successful business, but when it becomes too successful, you become a "clinical sociopath". I am always amazed when people expect business not to do the most profitable thing. It's like expecting a fish to fly.

The inconvenient truth of profound wealth creation is the inevitable destruction of the other. It's a feature, not a bug. We reside under this truth whether we want to or not. How we contend with this truth going forward will likely define us for centuries.

I see HQ2 as something like the bid for Olympics for subsidies and tax breaks.
