I remain *puzzled* by reviews of the new iPad that describe use cases that apply to 1% of the PC base, point out that the iPad does not cover them, and then declare that it can’t replace a laptop for ‘most people’

Aren't Chromebooks just laptops with a different OS? Can a Chromebook do anything a regular laptop can't?

It's a big Android phone with integrated keyboard, effectively.

No. Chrome books have no file system and omit run a browser. So even less than an iPad, but with a built-in keyboard.
