I live in an isolated rural county (pop. 16k), and we have two competing, thriving newspapers. They have otherwise no competition, and much demand. I think they have the luxury because most just laze about rather than working, because they can get away with it, not because they're wealthy. Just try and get a toilet fixed around here. Not that I own one or anything.
