Camera roll on my phone for last 2 months is all pictures of Dash. Basically I now know what it's like to have human kids. But the dog is better really. Always listens. Protects me. Unconditional love. Can't fail at life and inevitably disappoint.

I would have floated all these arguments myself, and in fact did years ago. Then I had unplanned children with a woman I barely knew (twice). I would never have made that conscious choice, but I accepted it when it happened, and it changed everything.

I am happy for you, it's good you have kids the future needs people like you.

Seems pretty obvious that human nature creates desire to take care of kids once born, not to matter *huge* power of ex post facto rationalizations. Just because you know you'd eventually deal with having kids... (1/?)

...and even be very happy about it, doesn't erase fact that childless can anticipate all this happening and think about it rationally in context of larger life plans/values. For the record, I'm not a philosophical antinatalist nor had a horrible childhood. (2/?)

...but this kind of argument honestly sounds like proselytizing. (3/3)
