Camera roll on my phone for last 2 months is all pictures of Dash. Basically I now know what it's like to have human kids. But the dog is better really. Always listens. Protects me. Unconditional love. Can't fail at life and inevitably disappoint.

Subjective take. I know plenty of older people with no children who are happy with that decision and very much 'adults'. Anyway there's 7 billion people now, the species is successful. There is no more burden on any single person to breed.

They're far outnumbered by those who want to have kids, but can't, as our now-huge fertility industry attests. Also, they don't know what they're missing. Would you accept the opinion of the celibate on sex, or those who've never been in combat on war? No. Why accept theirs?

My observable data indicates plenty of people *with* kids are miserable as well. Anyway, I appreciate the concern but assure you these decisions are not made without thought. Just accept some of us don't want that life.

I know you mean that as a pejorative, but maybe that's why those cities are seen as exciting, dynamic places to be? Having kids saps energy that can benefit humanity as a whole. And groupthink seems to affect parents really badly. 1/2

There are healthy ways to be a parent that leave independence of mind intact, but in many (IMO ~4/5) cases we get a different kind of 'childhood': Your mind yoked to your child's. 2/2

People can also adopt later. Take care if someone who wasn't wanted. Best friend growing up was adopted his parents / family were equally fulfilled as any natural children. I see what Antonio is saying but the broad brush is not right for places like this. We're weird here.
