Just got commissioned to do a longform piece (first time with this pub, which will 'out' me somewhat...stay tuned) on the rise of secular reincarnations of religious concepts. Any thoughts or references appreciated.https://twitter.com/antoniogm/status/1026909489000153088 …

Ha! I guess you could say I'm at stage four...whatever version of 'brain' that is.
-
Kinda accurate right? I'm 4 too, tho wouldn't say I'm 'back' . 1 more idea-I know you're no Taleb fan from your footnotes, but SITG actually made me see religion differently. His idea is any long-surviving idea is 'rational' and for a reason. Makes you see it all more charitably

Ordered, thanks.

You're welcome. This is one of the books that really changed how I understand the world (especially my home town of Boston).

Religion for Atheists by
@alaindebotton does an excellent job of exploring how some people extract similar benefits from parallel, but not deistic, behaviors and rituals https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IEGU5C/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I love Gray’s book Straw Dogs. It’s a c. 2002 collection of New Statesman pieces, more personal than his other recent writing though covering much the same ground: “atheism” as cloaked/mutated religion, affinity for Taoist thought, no god(s), no progress, no telos.
