That's sadly correct. And there's really nothing FB or anyone can do about it, other than to squelch free speech or remove social aspects of the media. Free speech, social media, democracy: choose two.

the Dunbar number looks like a good point. (Bigger networks = more chance of an extreme view = radicalising of the network.) Also: low friction for passing on misinformation makes things worse.
