All the constant glowing Ai pieces 24/7. And yet almost none of the reporters has a clue about Ai, let alone deeper work in general intelligence.

Yeah. My original tweet is certainly wrong in that much coverage of tech is actually fawning, while some is incessantly hostile (seems the topic seems to define the attitude). Be nice if more techies dabbled in, or totally shifted gears into, journalism.

How's it pay?

I don’t mean to make light of this. Journalism is in crisis now, and only a few corps own it all. Not good.
-
Right. Despite the snark, I say this somewhat lovingly. Journalism needs to exist. But if the reaction to losing their monopoly on information distribution is harrumphing about the past, well, not doing anyone a service.
-
Kind of agree with you, in the sense that “journalism” has lost a lot of its control over the narrative in many areas; and I think that can be a good thing. The problem is, who is there 2be alternative journalists. As u may know, I’m not for the libertarian view on jobs/econ.

somewhat true for the majority of journalists but also true is most in tech have little understanding of populism, propaganda, disinformation or nationalism. tech is being exploited by small networks of bad actors: troll, phishing and hacker armies to wage cyber or partisan wars.
-
your social gutenberg metaphor (or radio, tv or whatever) for social doesn't make sense unless people were hacking into the airwaves or placing stealth ads on them. the distribution over the earlier channels was well established and transparent.
