I don't really understand how or why this Avenatti character somehow got introduced into the soap opera, nor what role he's playing or why anyone takes him seriously, and now it's too many episodes back to rewind and figure it out.

The basic problem is that he was a player because he got behind Pizzagate-level allegations and pushed ("At least he fights"), so he's directly responsible for Kavanaugh getting confirmed. Fun character of the week though.
