As much as I love text/loathe video, I think there's something with esp. short form text as a medium that inculcates a snarky/aloof dynamic, such that people who *could* think or empathize instead feel drawn to the easy dopamine of in-group dynamics (either reading or writing).

I need to flesh out this idea, but it's related to rage-mobs and memes while being something more. It's more personal and internal. The individual writing a status update or tweet, and her reader, are being trained to appreciate a necessarily caricatured idea.

Dude, it's not symmetric, you can't talk about our politics in the abstract when there is a know-nothing element with control of every government body. "Build the wall" and "lock her up" are not substantive policy positions that people can have intelligent debates about.
