This will be a week after the mid-terms. What political theatrics will be going on? Can I join some protest and get my social anarchy groove on?

A lot of Trump talk. Only subject in town. Could use new perspectives.
-
Ok. TBH, given I've only seen the Trump phenomenon from afar, I'd actually like to see it close-up. Whatever that even means.
-
The game in town is how many minutes (or seconds) does it take from greeting to talking about Trump.
-
Ok. I'll make sure to record this. I'm guessing it's measured in seconds.

Short answer, yes. Pop-on your headphones and just walk it.. small enough to cover and so many different pockets with their own vibe (and watering holes with local characters).
-
Sounds like a plan. Have a favorite watering hole?
-
Marvin's, The Red Derby, Meridian Pint, Churchkey
-
Ah...that Churchkey has good reviews from the beer crowd.
-
I used to work there. they run 5 casks!

Solid restaurants where you can actually get a table. Good local beer. And this is one of the few seasons where the weather is horrific.
-
I kind of want to go to whatever the politico version is of The Creamery/Blue Bottle in SF, and see what life is like for this weird species of alien.
-
That'd be Johnny's https://www.johnnyshalfshell.net/ or maybe Old Ebbit's http://www.ebbitt.com/ .
-
Ok, I'll wear my one speaking jacket, and look like I've got a stick up my ass. I'll formulate a wonky, rambling diatribe on ethanol subsidies in case anyone calls my bluff.
-
Ha, sounds like my Friday nights

Checkout 9th & N area for the trendy* foodie spots. Espita Mezcaleria, The Dabney, Columbia Room, All-Purpose. 14th Street is fun too. *I moved out almost a year ago.

The history is awesome - US is an amazing social + political experiment that's only ~250 years old. D.C. has a lot on display (think of it as being engaged, not touristy). Plus there's no museum on Earth like the Smithsonian (and I've been to 100+) + African American Museum.
-
Second reco for the AA history museum. Will have to check out. Thanks.
-
Surprised I had to scroll so far to see the first museum recommendation. All the Smithsonians are remarkable, but the Natural History one will change your view of the world (it's like strolling through Sapiens). American History will either placate or amplify your worries.
-
Also, underappreciated fact: Leonardo da Vinci's only painting in the Americas is in DC. "Ginevra de’ Benci" is at the National Gallery of Art. You can see what is believed to be his left thumb print above her left shoulder, where he used it to paint a tree.
