Throughout working on , I've been repeatedly asked by other devs how I can afford/manage to spend so much time on the community side of the game (reddit/steam/yt/discord, and making weekly vids). I always wonder how other indie devs (esp. in VR) can afford _not_ to.

I really thought the conservatives were just going to stick with the "it's just one accuser there's no hard evidence" defense. They took me by surprise with the "it was the 80s weren't we all rapists back then?" direction they decided to go with.

If H3's fans knew what percentage of my time was just staring at spreadsheets, a whole lot fewer of them would want to get into game dev.

Bruce Ohr is one of the top anti-organized crime agents in US law enforcement. Disclosing his communications might compromise the US's cases against Russian mobst.... Oh, *now* I get it...

Does our education system teach _nothing_ about doing even basic research anymore?

I swear, the number of people who ask me how to make a more "realistic" x, and don't seem to be able to intuit that "making a thing that's like the real thing" means "understanding as much as possible about how the real thing works" just floors me.

"But that means I'll just be reading things forever and doing tons of math. When do I get fun part where I can just fire a gun?" Based on how this conversation is going, somewhere between months and never.

"How do I figure out how to do that?" Start with wikipedia and/or some basic physics pages, with an object moving over time with gravity and air drag. All the equations to use, and how sight zeroing works are easily found on the bajillion gun-centric websites online.

"How do I make the bullet hit where the sights are lined up?" Well first are you simulating air drag, bullet drop, and are you zeroing the sights on your gun model based on this? "How do I do that?" Math. "Oh god." Yup

"That's a ton of work" I know. "But isn't there a faster way to do that? Or something I can just buy?" No, because all guns are different, and if you don't understand how they operate, you're not going to be able to build interaction logic for them.

"How do you make good VR guns?" Well first map out the state space of a gun "Huh?" Like what can and can't happen based on what state each piece of the gun is in, trigger, bolt, slide, fire selector, etc. "Well how do I know that?" Doing research, read, watch, diagram things out.

Every time I get asked for help from someone wanting to make good feeling, accurate guns in VR, I end up having the same depressing exchange, over and over:

That moment when you're doing a major refactor, substituting out your Damage interface/class pair, 'FindAllReferences' in VS, and go OH! That's all? I only have to recode.... 77 classes!... by Friday. So 20 of them a day... *cracks knuckles*

yo, i love to teach a thing or two, so here is a good advice: if you are making a shooter and your bullets are raycasting from the camera... make sure you ignore your own players colider! brilliant, right?

Bernie Sanders would be 83 at the end of one term as President. Joe Biden would be 82. John Kerry would be 81. Let's not do this.

In the past, artists made money when their work appeared in books and magazines. We've replaced that system with one where Mark Fucking Zuckerberg gets paid, but no one else does.
