Thinking about the recent paper by and on urban grids and navigation skills – it seems Londoners are rather duped into griddy thinking by the tube map, we may fare better if we had to follow the geographically 'true' version (left)

Turns out that legible cities make our brains less able to navigate. Fascinating work! *sits back and watches as urban designers use this study to justify incredibly complex street patterns*

We computed the street network entropy of 380 cities in the world with OSMnx. It is an amazing python library developped by that gives access to the street network topology of any city, via OpenStreetMap.

New preprint! Using dataset (3.9m participants), we show that growing up in a city has cost for the development of navigation ability. The less complex the cities of a country, the more negative their impact on spatial navigation ability.
