A man we describe as ‘tall’, does that define his whole person? Most diabetics would describe themselves as diabetics, equally I’ve heard many people label themselves as addicts.

agree.. and that stuck language can affect the brain's neuroplasticity and the ability to change.. if i had called myself disabled instead of someone with a broken pelvis, then my ability to live with the effects of car accident would have been lessened..

However, an ‘addict’ does not describe a state of permanence like ‘disabled’ does...
-
no.. but do you concur that language and how you describe yourself can effect change/
-
I do yes, but I’m also surprised at how many people are willing to ‘call a spade a spade’ even when it comes to self labelling..
-
as long as you don't get stuck there. . it is the fluidity that holds all the power.. all the curiousness that leads to change..
