    This is why I think personal carbon limits might be viable and effective. They’d affect relatively few people and, if they needed more carbon credits, they’d have to buy them from someone who isn’t flying or driving a lot. So it would also be redistributive.

    Random stat I just stumbled across: 10 per cent of people are responsible for more than half of all international flights to/from the UK.

    It's great to see the recent interest in 'Simple Haskell'. My (not so secret) plan has been to use Haskell 98 throughout my career, as there is still a vast amount of interesting and useful new ideas to explore in this setting. Hope to see more people embracing simplicity too.

    Overall, one thing I’m having a hard time articulating: having personal and sensitive information collected does not necessarily “feel better” when that data is collected as a statistical aggregate, nor do I think the societal effects just go away.

    Always nice to have numbers. Looking at energy, water, etc in manufacturing & disposal, a cotton tote IS better for the environment than an LDPE grocery bag—if you use it at least 7,000 times before throwing it out. Organic cotton takes more water, so use it 20k times pls 😮😐

    I was agnostic about DNS-over-HTTPS but now fully in favour. have been one of the few broadly ethical actors on privacy while companies like TalkTalk have lost user data due to colossal incompetence.

    is nominated for the for their proposed approach to introduce DNS-over-HTTPS in such a way as to bypass UK filtering obligations and parental controls, undermining safety standards in the UK.

    This is… disturbing. We do *not* know about off-target effects of , particularly in vivo. There is work underway to look at off-target impacts, but it is a matter of debate, and as of yet… unknown. So, pushing forward into humans is maniacally unethical.
