No, it comes from people who can do the math. Sure, there are easier solutions for rich people, but there always are, and the more the people who have them adopt them, the safer *everyone* will be, including those who have fewer options.

If it's the right math problem. It's "what is acceptable risk", not "how can we get as close to zero as possible" Big gatherings, sure. But for perspective, the 1st death occurred Feb. 19th. Excluding the WA nursing home deaths, we're averaging 1 per day.

Correct, everything can't shut down. As you shop for food today that will be evident - someone shipped it, shelved it, cashiered. But social events aren't mandatory. Stop gathering and protect those who can't miss work or can't physically fight the virus.

*And medical professionals who understand that social distancing and self-quarantining is the only way to prevent the spread of a virus with a 2 week incubation period. I understand self-quarantine is a privilege, but it’s also medically indicated.

Also: it shouldn’t be a privilege. Any reasonable nation has social security nets in place that make self-quarantining possible for everyone who doesn’t provide an essential service (utilities, internet, healthcare). This is why America is going to be worst hit by any pandemic.
