Warriors have signed Quinndary Weatherspoon to a two-way contract. They’ve had the two-way qualifying offer out to him since the beginning of free agency. There’s belief he can help them in rotation minutes next season.
Warriors are expected to enter camp with a vacant 15th roster spot, able to be won in a competition (like Gary Payton II did) or left vacant, which would save tax dollars. McClung has committed to be one of the camp competitors.
McClung’s deal will be a standard, non-guaranteed deal – not an Exhibit 10 – that gives him an opportunity to make the Warriors’ roster out of training camp. twitter.com/ShamsCharania/…
Forward JaMychal Green is finalizing a contract buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder and plans to sign with the Golden State Warriors after he clears waivers, his agent Michael Hodges told @TheAthletic@Stadium.
James Wiseman is starting the Warriors’ summer league finale tonight in Vegas against the Wizards. Fourth straight game. Great sign for him in his return action. No Moses Moody or Jonathan Kuminga. Sitting the finale.
No Moses Moody for the Warriors tonight. He’s been slightly banged up. Here are the summer starters vs Thunder.
Mac McClung
Lester Quinones
Quinndary Weatherspoon
Jonathan Kuminga
James Wiseman
James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga will play for the Warriors summer league team vs the Thunder tomorrow. If OKC plays Chet Holmgren, it’ll be a spotlight test for Wiseman. Moses Moody status TBD. Fell hard late in last game.
In here: Warriors are still waiting on an official retirement-or-return decision from Andre Iguodala. They’ve put no timeline on it. Roster spot remains there for him if he chooses to come back.
*Jonathan Kuminga: 29 pts on 11/22 FG. Turned it up late. Jumper started falling. Forced action at rim
*James Wiseman: More active on glass. Five fouls in 21 mins. Flashing same strengths/flaws
*Moses Moody: 6/19 FG. Struggled vs length. Still finished at 21 pts, 4 asts, 3 stls
Initial plan from the Warriors is to play James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody in Tuesday’s summer league game. Jama Mahlalela: “The more they play the better.”
James Wiseman plays 20 minutes in his return. Eleven points on 5/7 FG. Jumper looked good. Moved well. Only had two rebounds and committed seven fouls. Mixed bag. Most important for Warriors that he’s on floor again.
James Wiseman will make his summer league debut for the Warriors tomorrow night, I’m told. Cleared practice well today. The final step in his return. Warriors face the Spurs.
Donte DiVincenzo details his last couple seasons — breakout in Milwaukee, ankle surgery, slow comeback: “That’s something Steph and I talked about. The injury. He said, ‘We know you can play. You know you can play. Just gotta show everybody for a year.’”
Donte DiVincenzo said phone conversations with Steph Curry and Draymond Green sealed his free agency choice to join the Warriors. Details it a bit here.
Rough summer league opener for Jonathan Kuminga. Went 2-of-10 shooting with five of the team’s 23 turnovers. Moses Moody was spectacular. Finished with 34 points on 8/13 FG, three 3s, 15-of-17 on free throws.
Moses Moody’s mindset on next season: “Make it to the point where if I’m getting into the game, it’s not because someone likes me. It’s not doing me a favor. I want to be needed. I want you to think ‘I need Moses on the floor.’ That’s on me.”
Twenty first half summer league points from Moses Moody. Scored in a variety of ways. Mid-range turnaround, rebound putback, slashing layup, spot up 3, power and-1. Seven made free throws.
