Maybe I'm out of touch, but this "everybody loves the NHS" line always seems ridiculous to me. It's a 1960s attitude cum Labour Party talking point. This is the real issue - post-Christian Britain has a fundamentally distinct attitude to human life.https://twitter.com/matthewschmitz/status/990747103902289920 …

I don't deny that there's an indirect connection between state-provided health care and this: a severely disabled child is very visibly a future drain on our resources. But it's not as direct as "the NHS is always right". Nobody thinks that.

Don't misunderstand. People in the UK moan about the NHS a lot. I mean when foreigners criticise it, particularly foreign doctors. Then the claws come out. It's status as a symbol of national honour was clear at the Olympics

I was going to mention the Olympics but ran out of characters -- it struck me as a partisan attempt to reignite something long dead among the larger population. LIke I said, maybe I'm out of touch. Everyone in banking has private health insurance.
