To be honest, I can understand the doctors' point of view. I just don't agree with giving them authority that outranks parents'.

Agreed, although in this particular case, the doctor's attitude was unforgivable. Per the parent's account, the doctor threatened to take away all their children, in response to nothing more than an inquiry about the proper course of treatment for their child.

My point is that if you give parents the last word, the doctors can keep their arrogance but the damage is limited.

And have no doubt, some parents will harm their children. Maybe more than would be harmed by doctors. But that's a more resilient and safer system in the long run.
