Whatever the 'mainstream' is, it'll never again have a monopoly on an ability to raising large amounts of money quickly, reaching millions of people, coordinating logistics on the ground. The money, experience and machinery of the political mainstream matters a lot less now.

The non-establishment and anti-establishment voices that strike the mainstream as cranky, weird, offensive or indeed dangerous now stand a much better chance of acting in ways that politically matter. And that is epochally ripping the political world wide open.

It could be that the difference between a "TV society" and a "Social Media society" is more significant than between a "democracy" and a "1-party state"
