Current charities seem very bad at helping atm vs the welfare state which is reasonably consistent. Just give everyone a dividend I think

and at least pensions/disability benefits are a sustained income. Charity is unreliable, and results in a worse living standard for the ill.

I'd much rather the most vulnerable people be given a sustained basic income allowance on the basis they're human beings, not charity.

It's not about democracy, there are certain laws that should hold regardless. This prevents mob rule and minorities being threatened.

The point of the charities is that, being run by the King, who is an absolute monarch, they are essentially equivalent to state welfare.

They are formally charities rather than state welfare in order to allow the intervention of responsible discretion.
