1/ THIS Had same thoughts a few years ago re: borders/immigration. Changed my mind from aspie-tarian MUH OPEN BORDERS to nationalism. https://twitter.com/ClarkHat/status/864117752268828672 …

2/ TL;DR: AnCaptopia is a distant dream. It's path-dependent. Tyrants centralize, dream of world gov; love open borders b/c they homogenize.

3/ Autistically screeching for open borders does NOT build AnCaptopia. It plays to tyrants' goal of faceless, inescapable world-gov.

4/ Nationalism is 1st bulwark against this homogenizing impulse. Then federalism, states' rights. Then counties. And so on to individuals.

5/ Libertarian impulse to immediately embrace statelessness in any form, now, ignores these path dependencies. It's same trap as Progism.

I think it's worse than that. Property is defined by borders. I don't see rejecting national borders as in any way pro-property.

The weird bit is that up until about 10 years ago, libertarians weren't overwhelmingly open-borders. Some were, some weren't.

The shift from open borders being one significant strand of libertarian thought to being the assumed norm seemed to happen suddenly.

I attribute that to the influx of Bush-haters circa 10-15 years ago that came to libertarianism from the left and brought their baggage.

Entryism. It's anti-property because it wasn't ever a genuine libertarian idea.
